What is FamilyLine?
FamilyLine is a free, confidential helpline offering a listening service and support from trained volunteers in a safe, non-judgemental environment. We take calls from any family member. Often they are experiencing serious problems that not only affect their own emotional well-being, but also that of their family members too. Problems range from issues of fear and abuse to depression, isolation, bereavement, divorce and custody.

FamilyLine listens to and supports our callers emotionally. We empathise and encourage them to understand their problems. Exploring how they are being affected helps them to consider next steps or resolution. We do not tell them what to do but provide support for the path they choose without fear of being judged. Our helpline is free from all landlines and most mobile providers.
What do FamilyLine offer?
Free telephone or email support. Our trained volunteers listen in a non-judgemental, safe environment, focussing on the emotional well-being of the caller. We accept calls from those who need regular support for an on-going situation or callers who just need encouragement at that particular time. Our helpline is open to all regardless of age, gender, ethnic origin or beliefs.
What do FamilyLine offer professionals and other support organisations?
FamilyLine offer signposting for professionals through our database of over 700 local and national organisations which is accessed through the free helpline.
You might also find it useful to recommend FamilyLine as a means of emotional to support to:
- Clients where there does not appear to be a case for commencing statutory intervention
- Clients where the case work has been completed but there is an on-going need for support
- The family members or carers supporting a client

When do FamilyLine operate?
FamilyLine’s telephone helpline is staffed daily from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. The email support service is available 24hrs a day, but responses are confined to office hours Monday to Friday.
